The use of Hybrid bearings in the Angelus seaming rolls results in a number of performance and durability advantages: longer bearing life and less drag on the seaming roll, for less scuffing, and better seams. This use of advanced materials results in seaming rolls that last longer, turn with less drag and run cooler. This means less lubrication is required, so there is down time for maintenance.
The initial cost of these hybrid bearing seaming rolls is quickly recouped in increased production time. One Angelus customer reported that, prior to installing the new rolls, they would stop the seamer for 10 minutes four hours for lubrication. After installing the hybrid bearing seaming rolls, the customer was able to run two-hour shifts and grease the rolls during clean up. This resulted in an average of 2-1/2 hours in saved production every week, or 7,800 minutes. At 1,500 cans per minute, that translated to 11,700,000 additionall cans produced per year. At $6.00 per 24-can case, that adds up to a $2,925,000 increase in production! In addition to this dramatic improvement in performance, the customer also reported no seaming roll problems over the course of the first year.
